Impact of Climate Change and War on Water, the Environment, and Health in Ukraine
摘要
The impacts of climate change and war exacerbate issues related to water scarcity, accessibility, and quality, leading to significant negative health consequences for millions. Irrigation networks, agricultural productivity, the livelihoods of farmers and businesses, and food prices in domestic and international markets all rely on a dependable and clean water supply. The health and well-being of every Ukrainian are at risk, and the indirect effects of the war resonate on both regional and global scales. Acts of war often constitute acts of ecocide, resulting in long-lasting planned or unintended environmental repercussions. This chapter envisions transforming water stress into water security—ensuring sufficient and safe drinking water while providing enough for irrigated agriculture to support food production and promote economic and environmental stability. Although this is not the current reality in Ukraine, it represents a possibility we strive toward.
