UNESCO states that whether a cultural property has Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) is determined by the preservation of its “authenticity” and “integrity” values as well as the criteria identified. And the concept of integrity is defined as a measure of the attributes that convey the OUV. However, in some restoration projects, it is observed that large-scale structures, especially industrial heritage, cannot be preserved with all their features and cannot maintain their integrity due to various economic and legal procedures. This process poses a serious threat to the protection of industrial heritage. After losing their original function, industrial buildings can remain neglected for a long time. During this period, some complexes may collapse and not survive to the present day. When it comes to re-functioning industrial buildings, only a part of them can be taken into consideration and the remaining parts are treated as if they were not a part of this complex. As a result, this process creates a serious threat that damages the integrity of the structures. This paper aims to discuss the positive and negative aspects of the implementation of re-use projects for industrial heritage and develop suggestions through case studies from Turkey.

摘要
