Introduction: From Functional Morphology to Biomimetics
摘要
In this chapter, we explore the evolutionary and functional significance of various case studies associated with biomimicry in ten relevant chapters with various aims. By the “form–function” relationships over a wide diversity of organisms, the chapters highlight how organisms’ structures, performances, and behaviors relate to their survival strategies, design, and how these are utilized in building the diversity of applications in biomimicry. Comparative perspectives between organisms and their potential applications emphasize how artificial systems adopt structural and functional integration, interacting with their dynamic environments. The work underscores the importance of bridging functional morphology, ethology, and biomimicry to generate insights into both biological evolution and the design of resilient biomimicry.
