We noted that despite the various efforts, poverty alleviation has not been particularly successful for old women who reside in rural areas. We turn now to a theoretical perspective on women’s poverty, the feminization of poverty, to gage its utility in analyzing the poverty of old, illiterate women in a rural setting.
