In this chapter I chart the influence of a global diversification in the interests of archaeologists, and of the societies in which they practice. During that period changes in the social and cultural contexts of archaeological activity have been at least as significant as the impacts of processual and post-processual archaeologies on the ‘old’ archaeology.
