Psychosomatic Medicine in Palestine
摘要
In Palestine, the personal is the political, and psychosomatic presentations are inextricably linked to the experiences of the Palestinian people living under occupation and being subjected to multiple forms of violence. Psychosomatic presentations therefore need to be seen through a decolonising, de-psychologising, politicised and body-centred lens. Professionals are invited to adopt a stance of justice-doing, of witnessing, and of noticing acts of resistance within communal networks in order to effectively respond to these presentations. They also need to expand their therapeutic vocabulary to be able to understand the patients’ descriptions of pain and suffering in the context of ongoing human rights violations. We hope that the specifics of understanding psychosomatic presentations in Palestine can serve as a template and framework for clinicians in other parts of the world.
