The Evolution of Psychosomatic Medicine with a Public Health Perspective in Latin America

The psychosomatic concept is embedded within the broader concept of mental health in the Latin American region. This integration is part of the generic notion of public health and therefore involves the pragmatic application of knowledge across various fields: clinical, epidemiological, neurobiological, sociocultural, and basic research are among the most important. Concepts and policies regarding mental health have evolved over the last decades and are now well established in several countries of the region.
