In the course of the preceding chapters, two points about antigravity have come across very clearly. First, all the way from ancient legends to present-day SF, it’s always been a strong aspirational symbol of human power over nature. Secondly, in spite of this—or maybe even because if it—the mainstream scientific community has shown very little interest in pursuing the subject with any seriousness. This final chapter starts by reviewing the evidence for these two seemingly conflicting viewpoints, before examining the current state of scientific knowledge relating to the theory of gravity. This is found to have quite a number of holes in it that will need to be filled at some point, but whether this would result in a “paradigm shift” large enough to accommodate the emergence of antigravity technology is far from clear. Even so, the book concludes with a speculative look at what such a paradigm shift might entail and its consequence for the world.

摘要
