This section addresses the major non-interventionist streams of US foreign policy. First, it examines several retrenchment-prone groups in the US foreign policy establishment—Trump’s MAGA Populist Nationalists, Paleoconservatives, Libertarians, Progressives, and Realists. Next, it explores the phenomenon of a transpartisan alliance in the US epistemic community. Thereupon, it explores the validity of the conventional argument that retrenchment is a “normal” condition of American politics. Finally, the chapter investigates the impact of minimalist trends in US foreign policy on America’s positions in the ensuing international system as well as on the trajectories of the development of a new world order.
