Are You Moving or Are You the Status Quo? Understanding How Movement and Diversity Supports a Positive Learning Culture in Healthcare
摘要
This chapter challenges you to take steps that improve engagement with a diversity of social and professional experience and knowledge. Being stagnant as an individual, group or organisation will not support a learning culture that is essential to moving forwards, innovation and improvements in healthcare. Stagnant workplace cultures often focus on task completion and the constant demand for meeting performance targets. In contrast, a learning culture will examine what is happening, learn from mistakes and take steps to constantly improve. A critical aspect of healthcare improvements and innovation is understanding healthcare as a complex system with many subsystems and groups of people working together. To reach the best solutions and make the best improvements, research suggests that working together across professional and group boundaries will lead to the best learning and outcomes. This chapter will encourage you to be curious about the diversity of your workplace and decide to create the movement needed to better understand problems and issues from more than your own perspective. Cross-subject and cross-professional examples help you to understand the value of diversity and networks. The chapter draws on examples where networks and diverse movement helped to facilitate healthcare improvements including examples from my doctoral research and aviation.
