This chapter explored differentFloodplain wetlands approaches of wetlandWetland mapping, monitoring, and area prediction. Spectral water indicesSpectral water indices, machine learning (MLMachine Learning (ML)) classifier, parametric image classification, and field parameters-based approaches were adopted for this. Artificial neural network (ANNArtificial neural network (ANN))-cellular automata (CACellular Automata (CA)) was applied for areal prediction of wetlandWetland area. WetlandWetland maps were produced using different approaches. Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWINormalized Difference Water Index (NDWI)) predicted that in post-monsoon 2000 (pre-dam), wetlandWetland area was 1680 km2 which was reduced to 802 km2 in 2013 (post-dam) and continued to decline over progress of time. WetlandWetland area prediction also assumed the likelihood of declining wetlandWetland area. Very high wetlandWetland extent during monsoon and post-monsoon seasons and low during pre-monsoon season is concomitant with seasonal rainfall pattern of this region. However, growing wetlandWetland loss is an ensuing ecological threat and needs due attention.
