Climate Resilience Framework for Grapevine Farmers in Dodoma, Tanzania
摘要
Grapevine farmers suffer from the adverse impacts of climate change (CC) which force them to adjust their ways of grapevine production. However, due to the high costs of adaptation, their level of adaptation remains insufficient. To support their adaptation efforts, a simple and user-friendly climate change resilience framework (CCRF) was developed for grapevine farmers in Dodoma, Tanzania. Surveys, discussions, interviews, and reviews were used to gather data. The quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics, and the qualitative data was analysed through content analysis. According to the results, farmers should be urged to adopt CC adaptation strategies in order to boost grapevine yield. The designed resilience framework aims to enhance the farmer's ability to adopt existing grapevine CC adaptation strategies. The four core elements of the framework include establishment and development of Grapevine Farmers’ Based Organisations (FBOs), asset access, institutional coordination, and well-informed decision-making. Implementing these elements can enhance climate resilience in the grapevine sector. It is concluded that concurrent attention should be given to these four fundamental elements to strengthen the grapevine sector in Tanzania. The researcher recommends that the Local Government Authorities in the study areas should empower all players in the grapevine value chain to adopt the proposed CC grapevine resilience framework.
