Exploring Cyber Resilience Frameworks in Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs): A Systematic Review Approach

The increasing trend of cyber threat has been a great challenge for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to build its cyber resiliency. Limited resources, budget, skills and expertise on cybersecurity post another challenge for SME to effectively build their cyber resilience competency. SMEs also face lack of tailored cyber resilience framework to guide them in their small business environment. This study aims to perform a systematic review approach on the existing cyber resilience framework to find their applicability, strengths, and gaps specific to SMEs domain. PRISMA, a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology was employed through rigorous searching and analysing into selected databases. The coverage was mainly focus on the establish industry standard, journal articles and conference proceeding. The main component extracted from this SLR were mainly focused on the cyber security challenges of SMEs and component involve in the existing framework. The review revealed the current cyber security frameworks are lacking on its adaptation to SMEs context especially on size, budget, culture. Based on the elements found, this study proposes a cyber resilience framework for SMEs integrating the critical elements found. This framework provides SMEs stakeholder a structured guideline to establish cyber resilience that tailored to small business environments.
