Innovation Technology Zakat Payment in ASEAN: Case Study from Malaysia and Indonesia
摘要
This study explores the growing role of digital platforms in the administration and distribution of zakat in ASEAN, with a focus on Malaysia and Indonesia. As digital transformation accelerates, zakat institutions are increasingly adopting mobile applications, online portals, and Fintech innovations to enhance transparency, efficiency, and user accessibility. Drawing upon the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and supported by Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), this study investigates key determinants influencing the intention to use zakat technology, including perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, trust in digital security, and prior user experience. Comparative insights reveal that while Malaysia benefits from centralized, institutionalized zakat systems with strong governmental support, Indonesia’s dynamic but fragmented zakat ecosystem is driven by fintech collaborations and grassroots innovation. The findings underscore the importance of integrating digital literacy, institutional trust, and Shariah-compliant design to foster wider acceptance of digital zakat platforms in ASEAN Moslem communities. This study contributes to the evolving discourse on Islamic fintech by highlighting the transformative potential of technology in advancing inclusive and accountable zakat management in the region.
