This study aims at showing the relation between Heinz Werner’s and Lev Vygotsky’s theoretical approaches and at developing a theory of learning based on their ideas. We believe that both authors’ thoughts may contribute not only to further pedagogical-psychological guiding but also to research and theorization of learning in schools. Based on the analysis of some tenets, such as the concept of development and the role of culture, we highlight the cultural-historical nature of learning and thought development. Finally, we outline key elements that may constitute the foundation for contemporary conceptualization of learning informed by theoretical contributions given by both authors.
