This chapter explores the foundational concepts and principles of relationship quality management (RQM) as an integrated approach to advancing sustainability transformation in higher education institutions (HEIs). It underscores a critical research gap in the application of relationship and quality management tools to HEIs’ sustainability efforts and emphasizes the managerial potential of an integrative approach. Relationship quality management enhances stakeholder identification, satisfaction, trust, and commitment—key dimensions that directly impact the legitimacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of sustainability initiatives. The chapter also examines that, while existing literature underscores the importance of service quality in HEIs, greater attention is needed on the applications of relationship management frameworks to foster deeper stakeholder engagement, particularly with primary stakeholders, such as students. By aligning service quality with sustainability goals through strong stakeholder relationships, HEIs can better meet expectations and improve outcomes. Ultimately, this approach positions relationship quality management as a strategic enabler of successful and sustainable transformation within the higher education sector.

摘要
