Despite significant progress made by higher education institutions (HEIs) toward sustainability transformation, scholars remain concerned about the urgency placed on the issue, the pace of actions taken, and the implementation of meaningful, substantial changes to make an impact. In this chapter, an action plan for HEIs’ sustainability transformation is outlined based on the relationship quality management (RQM) approach presented in various chapters of this book and considering the various barriers and constraints that HEIs face in their efforts to achieve sustainability transformations. In light of the significant barriers and structural impediments to effective implementation of sustainability policies at HEIs, we further propose a guiding narrative for HEIs to lead sustainability transformations. This narrative can be integrated in HEIs’ sustainability communication strategies to enhance stakeholder acceptance, commitment, and trust and ultimately enhancing sustainable development goal achievement at the superordinate macro level.

摘要
