In a dynamic and competitive world, access to information is fundamental to the success of strategic management in healthcare systems. Business Intelligence (BI) is a success factor in organisations, particularly in the health sector. This study characterises the impact of BI and the Power BI (PBI) tool on the management of healthcare systems, highlighting its contribution to quality of care and organisational efficiency. Through a literature review and analysis of case studies, benefits are identified such as data-based decision support, process optimisation, monitoring of performance indicators and greater transparency in management. The results show that the effective application of these technologies promotes more informed and proactive management, encouraging an organisational culture geared towards continuous improvement. However, challenges remain, namely adapting to the specificities of the sector, the need for technical skills, the protection of sensitive data and resource limitations. The case study, centred on healthcare institutions in Portugal, demonstrates the potential of BI and PBI to drive digital transformation, facilitating informed decisions and agile processes, aligned with sustainability and excellence in the provision of care.
