It took me many years to understand that the personal is political and that denying the personal is to give up on presenting ourselves as a whole. As a social and political activist, I came to understand how my daily experiences have shaped my awareness, how the past has affected my present, and how reconciling my multiple identities has been my only way to find my place in the world. When we know our story, we can root deeply into the ground and grow into a tree whose branches embrace the stars.
