Urbanisation in major cities in Zimbabwe is intensifying rapidly leading to a growing demand for efficient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable public transport solutions. This chapter critically explores the current challenges faced by urban transport systems in Zimbabwe and evaluates the opportunities for sustainable urban mobility, focusing on the integration of electric buses, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, digital ticketing, and low-carbon transit options. The main argument presented in this chapter is that a sustainable transformation of Zimbabwe’s urban transport system hinges on strategic adoption of clean technologies, robust policy alignment, and coordinated investment in inclusive, multimodal infrastructure. The chapter also analyses key policy frameworks, public–private partnerships, and infrastructure investments essential for transforming Zimbabwe’s public transport into a resilient and inclusive system. Drawing from successful case studies across the globe, the chapter provides practical recommendations to improve urban mobility while addressing environmental and socio-economic concerns. Furthermore, the chapter provides a comprehensive roadmap for policymakers, stakeholders, transport planners and urban planners to revitalise public transport and promote sustainable development in Zimbabwe and similar African urban contexts.

摘要
