This chapter describes the new playing field for journalistic media in the Netherlands. Legacy media have made digital transitions, and new players have entered the field. Free accessible platforms and streaming services have quickly become very popular. Due to processes of convergence, content is no longer bound to a single supply or distribution channel. Also, user patterns have changed significantly, as more and more people use the news through side door sources such as search engines and social media. These diverse but interrelated changes have created a range of challenges for journalistic media. One way to deal with these challenges is scaling up, which is reflected in the highly concentrated Dutch media market. At the same time, regional and local journalism is still in dire straits.

摘要
