This chapter focuses on the Western hawks’ efforts to discredit the Russian media and expert community as inherently militaristic, banning their representatives from Western public spaces. Those aiming to “cancel” Russian journalists and experts presented them as invariably fully supportive of and dependent on the Kremlin and its “totalitarian” power. The strategies of excluding Russian voices also included linking them to radical nationalist views and analyses of the war in Ukraine. Members of the canceling community in the West sought to publicly shame Russian think tanks, ignoring their diversity and insisting on their being sanctioned by Western governments.
