Exploring the Impact of Urban Spaces on Women’s Well-Being in Gomti Nagar Ward, Lucknow City

Urbanization has profoundly impacted women’s well-being through various interrelated factors. The well-being of women is shaped by an interplay of different physical, mental, social, economic, emotional, and environmental factors. This study utilizes a mixed-method framework, employing statistical and geospatial analysesGeospatial analysis to assess women’s well-being in Gomti Nagar Ward, Lucknow City. Data was gathered through a structured questionnaire using the Comprehensive Well-Being Assessment Scale (CW-BAS), incorporating elements from the BBC Well-Being Scale, CFPB Financial Well-BeingFinancial well-being Scale, Well-Being Scale, and Wellness Assessment, with purposive random sampling ensuring a diverse participant pool. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) in R identified key well-being determinants, while Indicator Kriging in ArcGIS facilitated predictive spatial mapping. Results indicate that mental, emotional, and physical well-beingPhysical well-being are paramount in urban contexts. Kriging analysis highlights Sanjay Gandhi Puram, Kasaila, and HAL as areas with low well-being, whereas Vibhuti Khand, Rabindrapalli Colony, and Laxmanpuri exhibit higher well-being scores. The mean scores-physical (19.19), mental (17.48), social (17.72), emotional (17.21), spiritual (21.57), financial (17.06), environmental (17.27), occupational (15.56), intellectual (18.67), creative (9.45), and subjective (21.77) -culminate in an overall well-beingOverall well-being score of 193.00, reflecting a moderate state of well-being. The research highlights spatial disparities in well-being and advocates for gender-responsive urban planning, mental health initiatives, and sustainable infrastructure to improve outcomes. By combining spatial and statistical approaches, this study advances the fields of urban geography, well-being assessment, and policy development, providing valuable insights for enhancing women’s quality of life in urban spaces.
