District-scale evidence on urbanization–heat linkages in Upper Assam is scarce. We address this gap for Tinsukia District using harmonized winter Landsat Collection-2 Level 2 data (2000, 2010, 2022): QA-masked LST, NDVINormalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), BU (= NDBI − NDVI)NDBI and NDVI, and a consistent UHIUrban Heat Island (UHI) threshold (LST > μ + 0.5σ). Mean LST (°C) in UHI vs. non-UHI pixels was 23.21 versus 19.74 in 2000 (Δ = 3.47), 22.57 versus 19.61 in 2010 (Δ = 2.96), and 27.62 versus 24.20 in 2022 (Δ = 3.42); both classes warmed by approximately + 4.4 °C from 2000 to 2022, and UHIUrban Heat Island (UHI) intensity remained ~ 3 °C. Hotter surfaces co-locate with higher BU in growth corridors, while greener areas are cooler. These results provide the district-wide UHI baseline for Tinsukia and a reproducible workflow to guide heat-aware planning and blue-green infrastructure targeting.
