Interview Techniques for Managing Somatizing Patients
摘要
Patients with SSRDs require explanations and understanding from physicians beyond their expectations for support, testing, and diagnosis. However, non-psychiatric physicians should avoid mind–body dualism. From the beginning of the assessment, equal attention should be devoted to each biopsychosocial factor affecting patients with SSRDs. In particular, physicians need to adopt patient-centered care with its emphasis not only on the disease but also on the illness experience as a way of helping these patients. Medical students and primary physicians should learn how to refer patients with SSRDs for psychiatric and psychological assessments. Role-playing is effective in teaching psychological skills (e.g., interview techniques) to medical students and general practitioners. A positive explanation for the possible causes of the disease, combined with an optimistic prognosis, may be effective for the management and referral of patients with SSRDs.
