My Journey in Life as a Peace Educator, Activist, and Researcher
摘要
This book chapter is about my personal experience as a peace educator, activist and researcher. This journey began with bitter experience of bullying, violence and conflict in schools and communities but also due to unbearable economic, social and political sufferings in Sudan and the circumstances leading to the secession of South Sudan in July 2011. During this period, I was tempted to choose between ‘fight back or flight-run away’. Though I was physically involved in a fight to defend myself during my school days, I later chose nonviolence as the way of life. This became possible with the support and influence of my parents, family and comrades at the Organization for Nonviolence and Development. They have greatly shaped my peace journey and activism. Schools and universities I went to as well as peacebuilding activities and conferences I attended had positive impact on my life. Consequently, I developed the passion for educating, organizing and mobilizing members of the civil society to work for a just peace in diverse communities.
