This chapter delineates the author’s career and intellectual progression from a police officer to a professor of World History and then to a UNESCO Chairholder on Peace Studies at Nanjing University in China. Possessing direct experience of violence and brutality in the society and passivity of the justice system, together with academic degrees including master’s and PhD in World History, he took master’s courses in Peace Studies at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. It discusses the important role he has been playing since then in strengthening the peace studies programmes in his alma mater and promoting the cause of peace both nationally and internationally. The chapter also describes the role of the mentors and international seminars and conferences in facilitating the author’s comprehensive understanding of world history and world events, as well as developing his own thoughts on peace. To Maintain that a peace educator and a peace activist can operate similarly to a physician within human society, this chapter suggests as to how peace education and peace activism can cure an ailing society. Again, the pivotal role that a peace educator in promoting and building peace is elucidated by sharing some autobiographical accounts and referring to certain turning points in the life of the author.

From Police Officer to Professor of World History: A Pioneer and Witness of Peace Studies in China
