This introductory chapter lays out the context in which this book was written and highlights the fictitious division between opponents of assisted dying and how this side of the debate properly accounts for background conditions of injustice as opposed to those in favor who allegedly champion individual liberty without much regard for such background. I lay out some of the key points of the book, one of which being to come to an end with this division by arguing that background conditions are relevant to all normative theorists working on the ethics of assisted dying and are not just to be used as argument by those who oppose the practice. I then present a brief overview of the current state of assisted dying legislations and its contemporary challenges. I conclude by presenting the structure of the book and introduce its different parts.
