Premium Yet Responsible: Quiet-Luxury Principles in Denim Design and Sustainable Production
摘要
Contemporary fashion consumption has shifted from merely satisfying aesthetic desires to articulating lifestyle, values and social identity. This shift has fostered a more reflective consumption culture in which meaning and personal expression play a central role. Consumers who embrace sustainable consumption prioritize not only an elegant, understated appearance but also durability and functionality. In this regard, denim—by virtue of its versatility and ability to meet both functional and aesthetic expectations—offers a strong response to this new paradigm. First adopted as workwear due to its durability, denim gradually expanded into everyday use and remains among the most preferred textile materials today. This study examines products developed by the brand Mavi that reinterpret denim through the lens of quiet luxury while preserving the fabric’s every day, functional character. Using a detailed case-study approach, the paper evaluates how these next-generation luxury denim products engage with sustainability-oriented consumption, focusing on material choices, design and finishing decisions and their relationship to environmental impacts. The analysis highlights a refined design language that supports long service life and responsible use, indicating denim’s potential to bridge understated luxury with sustainability-oriented practices in contemporary fashion.
