The human eye is one of the most vital sensory organs which enables individuals, not only to perceive their environment but also to interact with it. It enables the individual to communicate and to live with autonomy and dignity. Yet, in times of armed conflict, this fragile organ often becomes a victim of violence. Ocular trauma, resulting from war, has accompanied humanity for as long as warfare itself. From battles with swords and arrows to complex modern conflicts marked by explosive devices, urban warfare, and high-velocity projectiles, the eye remains dangerously exposed. In the twenty-first century, eye injuries caused by war have become an increasingly recognized yet an often-underestimated global health challenge.
