As medical students, perceptions of careers are formed early in training. Many face challenges, rebuttals, and comments when their career interests are expressed. These questions and rebuttals may unknowingly be discouraging towards aspiring female surgeons, moreso than our male counterparts. As practitioners, our comments, thoughts, and personal biases should ensure an equitable support for a surgical career for all trainees.
