When the System Fails: Maintaining Balance and Resilience
摘要
For women in surgery, the path is rarely smooth. It is often a tightrope walk between passion and exhaustion, resilience and burnout. But what happens when the entire system begins to fall apart—when your hospital, your residency program, even your trauma service starts to crumble? This chapter shares a deeply personal story of navigating systemic collapse while striving to stay whole as a person, a mother, an educator, and a leader. From losing a residency program to facing a trauma accreditation survey in the midst of a hospital bankruptcy, I share how I learned—sometimes painfully—that we cannot control every outcome. But we can control how we show up, how we support others, and how we rebuild ourselves. This is not just a story of hardship—it’s a story of how showing up every day, even when it feels impossible, is its own form of triumph.
