Research and Development in Surgical Practices
摘要
Research and development have been integral to advancing the field of surgery to its current state. Despite facing historical and ongoing obstacles, female surgeons have made significant contributions to its progress. Even with the substantial restrictions imposed since the Middle Ages, women overcame societal barriers with determination and creativity, gradually making their mark in the field. Over time, as more women entered medical schools and surgical residencies, the landscape began to shift, leading to important advancements. Pioneers like Dr. Alma Dea Morani, Dr. Nina Starr Braunwald, and Dr. Olga Jonasson highlight the groundbreaking work women have done through surgical research and development. Women’s contributions have greatly impacted areas such as maternal and reproductive health, pediatric surgery, and surgical education. However, significant gender disparities persist, particularly in academia. Addressing these disparities through mentorship, institutional support, and targeted initiatives is crucial for the continued growth of women in surgery. By ensuring their success, we can empower women to continue shaping the future of surgery with innovation and excellence in patient care.
