This chapter provides an introduction to student movements, the existing scholarly literature, and the methods, structure, and argument of the monograph. It demonstrates that, for as long as universities have existed, groups of students have mobilized around important issues, on- and off-campus. As little is written about the Canadian context, this book uses newspapers, archival documents, interviews, and surveys to describe major moments and events from the Sixties to the present, locating them in their economic, political, social, and cultural contexts and outlining their contributions to institutional and societal change.

摘要

This chapter provides an introduction to student movements, the existing scholarly literature, and the methods, structure, and argument of the monograph. It demonstrates that, for as long as universities have existed, groups of students have mobilized around important issues, on- and off-campus. As little is written about the Canadian context, this book uses newspapers, archival documents, interviews, and surveys to describe major moments and events from the Sixties to the present, locating them in their economic, political, social, and cultural contexts and outlining their contributions to institutional and societal change.
