CatCare – Intelligent IoP System for Recognition, Monitoring and Surveillance of Cats in Colonies
摘要
Managing cat colonies is a global challenge due to the difficulties in ensuring animal welfare in uncontrolled environments. A solution allowing the monitoring and tracking of stray cats in colonies would be of great use. This article addresses the following research question: To what extent can a smart IoT system contribute to the welfare and effective management of cat colonies? To answer this question, an intelligent IoP system was developed, called CatCare, which combines a Raspberry Pi with multiple sensors (animal image, animal weight, ambient temperature and humidity), computer vision algorithms and machine learning. This system allows the recognition of cats, through YOLO algorithms, the continuous monitoring of health conditions and the recording of environmental data. The information collected is transmitted to a remote database accessible via a mobile application, enabling real-time supervision and historical analysis. Preliminary results demonstrate the validity of the system, with great potential to optimize management and improve the well-being of colonies.
