Factors Influencing Tap Vs. Bottled Water Consumption: A Study of Consumer Behavior in Siliguri Municipal Corporation
摘要
This study explores the factors influencing consumer preferences for tap versus bottled water within Siliguri Municipal Corporation, emphasizing the roles of demographic characteristics and individual perceptions. A structured survey was conducted among 210 residents, examining variables such as education, occupation, income, and attitudes toward water safety, taste, and environmental concerns. The findings reveal that individuals with higher educational attainment and those employed in government sectors are more likely to consume bottled water. Irrespective of income levels, concerns over the safety and taste of tap water significantly influence the shift toward bottled water. Although environmental awareness was present, it played a limited role in shaping consumption behavior. The results underscore the importance of improving public confidence in tap water through infrastructural development and targeted awareness initiatives. By addressing safety and quality perceptions, public reliance on bottled water can be reduced, promoting both health equity and environmental sustainability.
