In this work, we show how authorities of the Applied Science and Technology Institute (ICAT, from Spanish) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, from Spanish) decided to create a Surgery Simulation Laboratory (SSL) using existing intellectual capital and infrastructure resources to develop many different digital simulation systems and solid mannequins related to different sicknesses and pathologies, with the aim to help hospitals’ teaching centers and clinical units to improve the skills and abilities required by the surgeons for the diagnosis, surgery and treatment of various diseases. University's health technologies developed in the Surgery Simulation field are intellectually protected to promote its licensing and use in hospitals and R&D institutions of the Mexican Federal Health Sector. Moreover, Science, Technology, and InnovationInnovation (ST&I) data obtained from scientometricScientometrics and bibliometricBibliometrics studies help to build a Technology roadmapTechnology roadmap that aids with the future visualization of the discussed technological field and orients the decision-making to adjust the institutional development plan.

摘要
