Supporting Designers in the Personalization of Educational Video Games: A Dashboard-Based Instrument
摘要
To address the contemporary requirements for an easier and more effective understanding of gaming results, educators and creators of educational video games need appropriate software tools that facilitate these processes and enable comprehensive evaluation of the outcomes. These instruments can be used in conjunction with educational video games, supporting the game and learning process by providing modern methods for visualizing the results of game and learning sessions. The DIZU-EVG (Data visualiZation instrUment for Educational Video Games) is an instrument that provides opportunities to visualize the results of the game and learning process through specialized dashboards, accurately presenting information from the designers’ games, as well as to individual players and learners. This paper presents a model of the expanded and improved functionalities of the specialized dashboard for designers of the DIZU-EVG instrument, based on a study of the possibilities for applying personalized learning as a teaching method by the educators-creators of the educational video game, supported by the use of the DIZU-EVG tool. The presented model of the improved and new functionalities of the designer dashboard provides designers with visualized data, enabling them to analyze and evaluate the game design. These functionalities offer opportunities for educators-creators of educational video games to apply personalized learning as a teaching method in three directions, as presented in this study. Hence, this will significantly contribute to the future improvement of personalized game-based learning and to increasing the motivation of learners and players to engage with the learning content and the educational video game.
