This chapter introduces and discusses the main types of uncertainty that are addressed in information fusion. It presents a taxonomy that categorises incomplete information, filling a gap in the current state of the art. Because different mathematical frameworks have different strengths and weaknesses when it comes to modelling uncertainty, the chapter also explores the use of the most common mathematical frameworks for representing uncertainty, including the possibility theory for handling epistemic uncertainty.

摘要

This chapter introduces and discusses the main types of uncertainty that are addressed in information fusion. It presents a taxonomy that categorises incomplete information, filling a gap in the current state of the art. Because different mathematical frameworks have different strengths and weaknesses when it comes to modelling uncertainty, the chapter also explores the use of the most common mathematical frameworks for representing uncertainty, including the possibility theory for handling epistemic uncertainty.
