Research on structure plan for DC guyed transmission towers is developed about the wires and column. The plans are studied on the arrangement of wires, the column’s width, the column’s cross-sections, etc. The tower with eight wires and variable cross-sections is advanced for the DC guyed tower. A mechanical experiment of DC guyed tower is carried out, and the safety and feasibility of the recommended tower structure are verified. Self-supporting tower and DC guyed tower are compared and analysed in technical and economic fields, and the latter shows better performance. The characteristics of these two types of towers are summarized.
