Bioaccumulation, Biomagnification and Public Health: Impact of Toxic Waste in the Food Chain
摘要
Toxic residues from household waste represent significant public health concerns and negatively impact agricultural systems. The infiltration of these toxic residues into agricultural systems through water, soil, and air is examined, focusing on the negative impacts of wastewater on agriculture and legislative measures designed to prevent contaminants from entering agricultural soils. The concepts of bioaccumulation and biomagnification are discussed, demonstrating how harmful substances accumulate in plants and animals and increase concentration throughout the food chain. Foodborne illnesses, often stemming from dangerous substances concealed in our food, affect everyone at some point. Therefore, this chapter examines the preventive strategies we can implement to mitigate these problems, as well as the global legal frameworks designed to ensure the safety of our food. It fundamentally revolves around coming together to prioritize our health and understanding how this issue is managed globally.
