Examination of Rural Development Policy and Strategy

This document examines the policies and strategies for rural development, focusing on boosting the economy and enhancing the quality of life for rural communities. The primary aim is to develop guidelines for improving the economic and social life of rural settlements. The policies and strategies discussed aim to enhance job prospects, reduce poverty, improve access to services, and protect the environment through a holistic and sustainable approach in partnership with key stakeholders. The document explores rural development policies and strategies in Nigeria, Africa, and on an international level, highlighting significant historical and contemporary initiatives. It delves into the colonial and post-independence rural development policies in Nigeria, the African Union’s rural development strategies, and international standards shaped by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The analysis reveals the challenges and successes of various rural development plans, emphasising the need for coordinated efforts, adequate infrastructure, and inclusive approaches to achieve sustainable rural development.
