This chapter discusses transition from the Early Childhood Education [ECE] programme into Standard One in Botswana public primary schools. The chapter explores how ECE programmes orientate learners into formal primary education [PE]. Botswana started its government-run ECE programme in 2013. Previously, there had been ECE only in English medium privately-owned schools and those that were run by churches and non-government organisations [NGOs]. These schools followed their own curricula that was not directed by the government, hence, there were gaps noted as children made the transition into formal school, especially into public primary schools. The curricula used suited transition into English medium schools only. Even training of ECE educators was not available at tertiary level because there was no pressure to do so since the government did not have its own ECE programme. This chapter critically evaluates the previous and current situations of ECE programmes in Botswana and transition into Standard One.
