A Critical Review of Policy and Research on the Transition from Early Childhood Education and Care to Compulsory Primary Education in England from 2000 to 2024
摘要
This chapter provides a critical review of policy and research on the transition from early childhood education and care [ECEC] to compulsory primary education [CPE] in England from 2000 to 2024. The chapter is structured into two main sections. First, the structural and discursive policy contexts that ECEC and CPE have operated within over the last 25 years are presented and analysed. Second, and against this policy backdrop, three waves of research on the transition from ECEC to CPE during this period are reviewed. The chapter concludes by putting forward five principles that might inform transition from ECEC to CPE research in England in the next 25 years.
