Mind Mapping for Teaching English for Special Purposes: The Example of Digital Linguists
摘要
The paper discusses the ways of introducing mind mapping into the course of English for Specific Purposes. The authors analyze the potential of mind mapping as a supplementary tool for students in learning a foreign language for professional communication and suggest the ways of organizing activities based on mind mapping in the course of English for Digital Linguistics. The survey conducted among the students of the exposure group has shown that using mind maps helps to achieve better results in their studies. The psychological testing has revealed that the leading representational system of most students who participated in the experiment is visual, which substantiates the relevance of using the visual tools during the classes. The results of the final test done by the students of the exposure and reference groups at the end of the experimental study have shown that the scores of students in the exposure group were significantly higher than those in the reference group. The authors make the conclusion that mind mapping is an effective visual technique that can improve students’ learning outcomes in mastering the course of English for Digital Linguistics and raise their interest in the subject.
