Propofol (2, 6-diisopropyl phenol) is a mainstay of anesthetic care both as an induction agent and an agent in sedation. However, recent research has also suggested applications beyond these indications, including uses for headaches and analgesia. Propofol causes potentiation of the GABA receptors and antagonism of the NMDA receptors.
