Conclusions/Afterword: Towards Becoming an Activist Academic
摘要
Anthropology cannot remain passive within a world facing intersecting crises of climate change, inequality, pandemics, nationalism, AI-driven misinformation, and threats to human rights and academic freedom. Drawing on the themes of the chapters in this volume, we emphasize anthropology’s capacity to integrate scientific and humanistic perspectives, address ethical dilemmas, and contribute to social transformation. The chapter outlines strategies for activist scholarship, including interrogating positionality, centering communities, dismantling hierarchies, amplifying diverse voices, critiquing systems of structural violence, supporting colleagues, institutionalizing change, and protecting vulnerable populations and human remains. While acknowledging gaps, particularly in Indigenous representation, we call for authentic collaboration and reflexive, community-engaged practice. This volume is both a toolkit and a call to action, where we urge scholars to transform research into ethical and activist practice for a more just future.
