Tirana-Next: Exploring Potential Strategies for the City’s Sustainable Third Landscape

The article aims to presentThird landscape the first research results jointly developed by the Departments of Architecture of Epoka and Federico II Universities. The research aims to set design proposals for a possible “missing” strategy on the horizon of future developments envisaged by projects and planning tools in force for Tirana. These are complementary strategies that may activate spatial, political and social dynamics born from the real involvement of citizens in the urban transformative processes. The research intends to have impacts aimed at protecting and enhancing the legacy of diffuse historical heritage and waste-spaces that contribute to realizing the horizons of Tirana’s Third LandscapeThird landscape. The research method is to learn from the evolutionary historical dynamics of Tirana’s urban palimpsest in order to understand the values of the layers that express their historical transformations. The tool the study uses is a multi-criteria analysis, devised and developed within the research, which is useful for building maps on the interweaving between the socio-anthropological context and the topological characters that define the peculiarities of Tirana’s urban landscapes.
