Varicoceles and Undescended Testicles in the Adolescent and Young Adult Population
摘要
Varicoceles are a common clinical condition caused by the dilation of the pampiniform plexus veins of the scrotum, typically occurring on the left side due to venous drainage anatomy. Diagnosis is clinical, based on physical examination using Grades 0–3. In the young adult and adolescent populations, decisions to repair varicoceles can be multifactorial, based on factors such as testicular size discrepancy, abnormal semen parameters, or persistent pain. Varicocelectomy may also improve fertility outcomes in this population and is discussed in depth. Methods of varicocele repair are discussed thoroughly in this chapter, including complication and recurrence rates. Additionally, this chapter also discusses the management of undescended testicles in the adolescent and young adult populations. Counseling undescended testicle patients on fertility, malignancy risk, and management strategies is essential in guiding this population.
