The aim of this article is to show how social photography as an art form can help educators develop students’ social responsibility awareness. Social photography or “concerned” photography is defined as a powerful visual tool that has the potential to educate people and change the world by addressing burning social issues. Despite the growing emphasis on social responsibility in higher education, traditional approaches are often unable to create an emotional connection with social issues, which necessitates the study of visual media as educational tools. The research employed a four-component theoretical model of social responsibility and question-and-answer methodology with university students. Results demonstrated significant positive impact of social photographs as teaching resources on students’ social responsibility awareness development. The most pronounced effects were observed in motivational-value and activity-practical components of social responsibility, emphasizing enhanced personal involvement and readiness for socially responsible action. The findings confirm concerned photography's pedagogical potential as an effective tool for fostering socially responsible citizenship, demonstrating visual media bridge the gap between theoretical and emotional engagement.
